Here is a little 'synopsis' of what can happen, perhaps under unintended consequences, by humans introducing non-native species into foreign ecosystems...perhaps this is even what can happen in extreme circumstances, if you will. Some 300-odd-years-ago slave traders from West Africa brought their beloved monkeys over to the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean.... and now.... they're alcoholics. Back when the lovely, little-known island was no more than a rum-producing colony, these poor monkeys got a taste of the Devil's Drink and liked its a little too much. These boozie animals have now developed a taste, an addiction if you will for alcohol all from indulging in fermented sugarcane and now, of course, from stealing drinks from tourists. Perhaps the most educational insight we can take from the video below is the revelation- the overall problem with alcohol- that humans suffer from, as well as monkeys. Many economists and animal rights activists are worried that these poor Vervet Monkeys are going to become endangered (although, as of now they are not considered to be part of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) list.) This particular species is often killed by electricity pylons, vehicles, dogs, pellet guns, poison and bullets and kept for means of traditional medicine, meat and even biomedical research. Many, including myself, are starting to wonder...what's next for our cuddly friends? Perhaps we should discuss this over a bottle of 99 Bananas Liquor?

Gisele Gives Birth to Her Very Own Angel

Supermodel Gisele Bündchen gave birth to her and Tom Brady’s first child together early Wednesday morning. Talk about a pair of immaculate genes (and we’re positive little Tom/Gisele Junior will be dressed in great jeans as well!) Although this is Gisele’s first child, Brady also has 2-year-old son Jack from his previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan.

This morning Brady embraced reporters at Gillette Stadium gleefully chanting, “It’s a boy!!!”) Looks like the virtually flawless couple will have another future quarterback on their hands.

“This is a wonderful experience in my life,” Brady said.

The lovely couple were married back in February in Santa Monica and then had a second ceremony in Gisele’s beloved Costa Rica as well for both close friends and family.

Not only has Bündchen taken a brief hiatus from the modeling world, but she also has postponed receiving her pilot’s license until after the baby was born.

Brady confirmed that both the baby and mom are in good health; however, no name has officially been chosen at this time.

It’s almost comical that the majority of people automatically characterize models, (especially supermodels) to be dumb as rocks. Because, in reality... today’s top models are nothing shy of creative geniuses. Take Agyness Deyn for example, who spends her free time split between rockin’ out with her band and interior designing, Coco Rocha who actually first was discovered during one of her award-winning Irish step-dancing competitions (which, she graced audiences with at the opening of Jean Paul Gaultier’s recent show), Gemma Ward acts alongside Hollywood A-listers including Liv Tyler and Toni Collette, Naomi Campbell has traded in her former bad-girl badge for non-stop charity work and then... there’s up and coming “it girl” Daul Kim.

Born in Seoul, South Korea, 20-year-old Daul Kim broke ground for her modeling career back in 2006 when she began booking several Korean Vogue editorials. From the very beginning Kim was on the fast track to success. In just an incredibly short amount of time Kim transformed from virtually unknown, shy, yet intoxicatingly beautiful aspiring Korean model to reaching supermodel stature seemingly overnight. Since landing a contract with dominating modeling agency Elite Model Management, to what later turned into a transfer over to Next Model Management, Kim has certainly made a name for herself instantaneously.

After growing up in South Korea’s largest city, Kim quickly relocated right into the hearts of die-hard fashionistas worldwide, as well as the center of Manhattan. There was virtually no latter to climb for Daul; instead, she set the bar by immediately landing many celebrated high-fashion editorials, spots on the most sought after rosters for fashion weeks worldwide and even composed a high-trafficked fan-favorite fashion blog of her very own. When she wasn’t devoting her life to her love for fashion, one would most likely find Daul working on one of her beloved art pieces, which she first unveiled to the world back in 2007 at her very own namesake solo exhibit back in Seoul.

Daul Kim’s resume is by all means a force to be reckoned with. From her very debut on the runway at Chanel she was soon working the catwalk for superior names like Salvatore Ferragamo, Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Anna Sui, Rodarte, Vivienne Westwood, Bottega Veneta and Roberto Cavalli. Her visibility on the runway quickly earned her admiration in the print world as well, where she was also skyrocketing towards success.

Kim was truly a breath of versatile fresh air for the industry. It’s not everyday that you see an Asian supermodel reach that kind of latitude of fame and eminence and Daul completely redefined the barrier for Asian women in general. She earned monumental contracts with Moschino, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and H&M as the newfound face of their timeless brands. However, in some adverse situations no amount of success or notoriety can overshadow one’s lack of happiness and fulfillment in life as a whole. On November 18, 2009, the unimaginable happened when Kim’s boyfriend found her body in their Parisian apartment. Her agents at Next Model Management confirmed the tragic passing of Daul Kim and released a statement saying, “She was a top model and a great friend to all of us at Next. Please respect her family’s privacy at this time of sadness. We will all miss her very much.” The model’s untimely death occurred just months before her 21st birthday.

The improbable cause of death? Suicide. Kim’s boyfriend reportedly found the supermodel in their apartment after she had hung herself. By reading through her personal blog it becomes apparent that the days leading up to her death were filled with heartache and lonliness. Daul was a walking, talking case of self-loathing depression, as she endlessly yearned for such simple things like love and acceptance. In her final days, Kim felt that she had lost her soul while both battling the unrealistic demands of the fashion industry and facing an ongoing struggle against inner-demons to locate her true identity.

The loss of Kim will undoubtably shake the modeling world my storm as she was not only a powerful, brilliant model, but also a dear friend of many of the current big contenders in the industry including Jourdan Dunn, Sessilee Lopez, Ali Michael, Ali Stephens, Lakshmi Menon and just about everyone else who has ever had the pleasure of coming into contact with the Asian stunner.

When Kim wasn’t full-fledge emerged in the countless hours she put into modeling, painting, working on her self-made films, reading her favorite Czech and French writer Milan Kundera, consuming old Klaus Kinski black and white movies, or blogging, one could find her doing one of the many quirky past-times she enjoyed like fork collecting? Which, of course, explains the true meaning behind her infamous blog title: “I like to Fork Myself” (no legit sexual connotations, sorry guys).

Ironically, as of recent her list of personal achievements reached their peak after Kim filmed, edited and starred in her very own short film titled “4”, in which she portrayed an airline passenger. She was named model of the year by Anan magazine, featured for her sensational street style on both Hintmag.com and in British Vogue, and even teamed up with New York Magazine to thoroughly document her New York fashion week experience.

Her presence was one so strong that Kim indeed was one of the few models whose unique personal style easily outweighed the luscious garments she was assigned to wear for designers on the daily.

Little things many didn’t know about supermodel Daul Kim? She had an undying love for guinea pigs and Vietnamese wet dumplings, was a gemini, her favorite places include London’s Dover Street Market and Roka’s dessert, and she wanted more than anything to become a wife.

Bitchy Blogger Pushes Supermodel to Retire

It is a sad day for catwalk-lovers, fashionistas and anyone who loves a killer high-fashion editorial. As of yesterday, it has been confirmed by her agents at Vivienne Models that Gemma Ward has officially quit modeling. According to her agency, she has no plans to return to her incredibly successful modeling career.
As of 2009, Gemma was #11 on Forbes most recent list for the highest-paid supermodels thanks to her hefty $3 million salary, which is a combination of her frequent catwalk appearances plus her contracts with top-notch fashion brands including Japanese cosmetic line Kose, Valentino, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Karl Lagerfeld, Swarovski and Louis Vuitton!

This news comes after her modeling hiatus that began last year right around the time her rumored boyfriend Heath Ledger passed away. Ward took time off to focus on coping and spending time with her friends and family in Australia.
Just this past week blogger "Bryanboy" posted photographs of Gemma and a friend walking around New York City and wrote, "I think it's very sad that Gemma gave up on modeling. She's a very beautiful woman and I think she could make a name for herself in the plus-size niche. You know, give Crystal Renn a run for her money. I would love to see curvier girls in fashion and Gemma Ward represents curvy women like no other!"
This is kind of sad seeing as she looks far from "plus-sized"; rather, just a healthy and normal young girl in comparison to her usual size zero. Those who commented left both hurtful and supportive comments and many are feeling that this type of negative-feedback surrounding the industry may have played a major part in her ultimate decision to leave the fashion scene.
Ironically, in the beginning of her career Ward was scrutinized for being "too thin". After nearly 20 months of dealing with the loss of a loved one under such harsh conditions, the awful commentary was most likely the last thing she wanted.
Another major reason behind her choice to leave modeling behind is her other passion for acting. At just 22 Ward has already been in two major films "The Strangers" and "The Black Balloon". Will Gemma return to modeling? Pursue acting full-time? Or, return to her homeland of Perth, Australia, and remain out of the public eye?

Devoted customers of the traditionally conservative fashion label Ralph Lauren were both startled and confused when a recent advertisement for the brand showcased a shockingly thin model.

The 23-year-old model Filippa Hamilton appeared looking somewhere in between a Bratz doll and a bobble-head, which she, of course, is neither of. In fact, Hamilton has modeled for Ralph Lauren a total of eight years and is known for her flattering curves and sky-high height.

Bloggers across the Web went into an instant frenzy the second the image was posted and called out the American-based designer for displaying a Photoshop job gone drastically wrong!

In response to the claims, the company attempted to sue numerous websites for “copyright infringement”; however, their actions only added public interest and animosity over the distasteful image that looked more like an ad for anorexia.

In an effort to save their otherwise honorable reputation, the company released the following statement:

"For over 42 years we have built a brand based on quality and integrity. After further investigation, we have learned that we are responsible for the poor imaging and retouching that resulted in a very distorted image of a woman's body. We have addressed the problem and going forward will take every precaution to ensure that the caliber of our artwork represents our brand appropriately."

Ironically, they opted to leave out a rather staggering piece of information. The fact that they fired model Filippa Hamilton for what she claims was solely because “she was too fat”. In person (outside of Photoshop) Hamilton is healthy, 5’10” and 120 pounds, which is far from being overweight. In fact, according to BMI (body mass index) calculations a woman of Hamilton’s height should weigh somewhere between 129-174 pounds. So if anything, she is underweight.

Although Hamilton insists this is the reason behind her breach of contract with the company, Ralph Lauren insists that they let her go, “as a result of her inability to meet the obligations under her contract with us.”

“They fired me because they said I was overweight and I couldn’t fit in their clothes anymore,” Hamilton said.

“I was shocked to see that super skinny girl with my face...it’s very sad, I think, that Ralph Lauren could do something like that.”

Apparently, the company fired Hamilton six months ago because they were unhappy with her shape, but they continued to use her gorgeous face, which had been the image of the company, as well as the face of their Romance fragrance for the majority of the last decade.

Editors continued to use photos of Filippa, because she still had the same stunning face that they originally chose to be their muse, yet would distort and reshape her body to the point that it became unrecognizable. Which, made many bloggers and consumers worldwide ask the obvious question of why didn’t they just get a different model?

As this issue continued to catch the interest of more and more people including celebrity blogger Perez Hilton and NBC’s “Today Show”, Ralph Lauren once again made a public statement in an active attempt to put this issue to rest.

“The image in question was mistakenly released and used in a department store in Japan and not the approved image, which ran in the U.S.,” Lauren said.

To some (extreme) degree, this remark seems more defensive and less apologetic than the first claim.

To sum up the issue: the photoshopping was an “error”, Hamilton is “beautiful and healthy”, but... she was still fired over her “inability to fit the clothes”. Hmmmm...

Ralph Lauren is still neglecting to accept the issue at hand and refuses to offer a sincere apology to Hamilton for what the company has done.

Someone who is handling the issue professionally? Filippa Hamilton. “I think they (Ralph Lauren) owe American women an apology, a big apology,” she just said. “I’m very proud of what I look like and I think a role model should look healthy.”

Even though numerous major fashion labels chose to include plus size models in their fashion week shows, the unfortunate truth is that there are still a large amount of size 2, pin-thin models who get turned away from jobs or ignored from the very beginning for what some people in the industry consider being “overweight”.

Many young girls and their mothers have been touched by Hamilton’s decision to come forward and openly deal with the controversy. This all comes at a time where more and more models and celebrities alike are doing the same by frowning upon the over-photoshopping and false representation of their bodies for either ad campaigns or movie posters.

Hamilton follows the footsteps of public figures such as supermodel Ali Michael who went on the “Today Show” and publicly talked about being sent home from Paris during fashion week because ‘her legs were too fat for the runways’. This was the same girl who won the Kim Dawson model search and the year prior walked runways for Lanvin, Karl Lagerfeld, Christian Lacroix, Chanel, John Galliano and Christian Dior, among others. So what changed?

Michael was first discovered in her home state of Texas when she was 5’9” and 130 pounds and was given the simple tip “to tone up a bit” (which, most models are told to do). She admits that she took it way too far and eventually dropped to 102 pounds, but somewhere in-between the drastic weight loss Michael experienced an overwhelming amount of success, but shortly after, hit rock bottom.

“I was on a plane from Paris to Texas, and I ran my fingers through my hair, and when I took my hand away there was a dry brittle clump of hair in my hand. And that’s kind of when I realized that this wasn’t worth it anymore, and it had completely taken over,” Michael said.

After getting home, Michael worked with a nutritionist and got her health back on track, before returning to Paris the following February and walking for Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto.

“It has to change,” Michael said. “The fashion industry affects everyone.”

Ali continues to book superior work for top designers including Burberry, Fendi, Balenciaga, Christian Dior, Karl Lagerfeld; has been on the covers of French Mixte, French Wallpaper, Latin American Vogue, Italian Flair, Lula; and has become of the face of Coach as well as Lanvin.

Other celebrities who have gone through similar situations include Kelly Clarkson, Keira Knightley (whose chest was digitally enhanced in order to promote Pirates of the Caribbean) and Faith Hill.

As for Filippa Hamilton, the French beauty continues to work as a model for Next Model Management and in the last year alone has worked with Russian Vogue and Italian Elle. She also has an impressive list of clients under her (tiny) belt including nearly every foreign version of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, W, Numero, Allure, Flair and Marie Claire magazines.

Hopefully the ban foreign companies have placed on underweight models from even stepping foot on their runways, as well as the inclusion of plus-sized models in both fashion week and magazine spreads is definitely a move in the positive direction for the future of fashion.

"No, no, no, I never said that... Yes, that's right, they can't be friends. Unless both of them are involved with other people, then they can... This is an amendment to the earlier rule. If the two people are in relationships, the pressure of possible involvement is lifted... That doesn't work either, because what happens then is, the person you're involved with can't understand why you need to be friends with the person you're just friends with. Like it means something is missing from the relationship and why do you have to go outside to get it? And when you say "No, no, no it's not true, nothing is missing from the relationship," the person you're involved with then accuses you of being secretly attracted to the person you're just friends with, which you probably are. I mean, come on, who the hell are we kidding, let's face it. Which brings us back to the earlier rule before the amendment, which is men and women can't be friends.

Right now everything is great, everyone is happy, everyone is in love and that is wonderful. But you gotta know that sooner or later you're gonna be screaming at each other about who's gonna get this dish. This eight dollar dish will cost you a thousand dollars in phone calls to the legal firm of That's Mine, This Is Yours.
